I love the stuttery, almost granular nature of the plucked string instrument! It's nice that you tried to combine the old with the modern. I do wish there were more modern synths and drum patterns though! I feel like the song lacked a definitive climax as well. On the technical side of things, I can't find anything to nitpick EQ or mixing wise. The elements all fit well together.

Overall great track!

OliRO responds:

Thank you so much for taking the time to make a review. I truly appreciate it, and I'm taking notes as well. I do like the sounds of traditional Japanese instruments and I intend to get better at mixing them with a modern twist.

Cheers!

Gorgeous track! The vocals are pretty, but the first vocal section kinda sounds tinny? It fixes itself at 1:37 so idk what was going on there. Also freakin BEAUTIFUL harmonies and guitar in the final section <3

Curruff responds:

Thanks for the feedback! I'm glad you enjoyed it. The tinny vocals at the beginning are actually intentional, I liked having the softer sound at the beginning and how it transitioned into the rest of the song.

Oooooh this is some crazy shit <3

That bass at 3:43 had me hoping you were building to a faster paced and more blown out percussive section, but then it just did an impact and cooled down ;-;

Great work! The atmosphere is incredible!

CorruptModule responds:

Thanks. I started to feel unmotivated to finish so I tried wrapping things up as best as I could. sorry if I disappointed you man but I'm glad you still like the ambiance. i might come back to it later but I don't know.

This is a fantastic track! It sounds like the guitar strings weren't the right gauge for Drop G but I like it xD

I think the guitar was missing some high end and needed some mids cut, and was either too loud or the drums were too quiet and needed some boost to the kick.

My fav parts are the section at 2:24 and then 3:57!

Great work :D 8/10

AlphaStormMusic responds:

Yeah, a lot of those issues I’ve fixed since. I’ve changed my EQ curve on the rhythms and have been refining it a lot.

Also, the string gauge was perfectly fine for the tuning, they were just old. I’ve changed them since. Might need to re-record it for that reason lol

Anyway, thank you very much!

Best and take care!

I really like this track! Not sure I understand the lyrics, but the vocals are nice and I love the instrument choice!

The vocals are clean, but super dry. Honestly I think having a sort of messy 80s style vocals with way too much chorus and reverb would have been interesting.

Also it bums me out that the song spends most of it's time at the maximum volume/energy level. Maybe it's tricky to do mixing on fl studio mobile and all the other things you'd routed it to, but I feel like some part of the song should have been a little louder, like the bass/synth break at 1:14 or something (which is another really neat part of the song, I just wish the bass was a little more saturated).

7/10 Awesome song :D

SkankyMojo responds:

Thank you and cheers for taking the time to leave a detailed review.

is this fucking PENIS MUSIC xD

Pretty funky, gives me warioware vibes. I would have done a little more to the dynamics to keep it from sounding like a brick wall the whole time. I like the lead near the end but it definitely suffocates the rest of the elements.

If you're slapping fruity limiter on the end of the effect rack, DON'T. Try fruity soft clipper.

thank you so much for these pointers. i will apply them in the future!

The sound choice is nice, but that bassline steered the whole song off course. The D# to C made sense, but then jumping up to F and returning to the D# early completely threw off the energy. I feel like D# to C down to G# and then up to like A# would have given you that sort of "love song" ballad energy this track would have really been a vibe with. Also having 2 bass patterns playing clashing notes is interesting but ultimately just causes more dissonance and confusion

the first actually constructive review i've ever received that analyzes a track of mine

this isn't really the song im particularly the happiest with as i've produced much better songs, i was really just trying to capture that anxious sort of feel when there is a girl you like and you're just afraid to tell her. however i believe that idea could have executed way better.

however now that you have pointed it out i know i should have made the bass line better and im glad u pointed it out and why it was a bad bassline.

if you have anymore questions or critiques then by all means ask away as i will try to listen to them as best as possible..

If anyone knows anything about me, it's that I LOVE atmospheric DnB :3

The soundscape is gorgeous! I wish it morphed and changed a bit more, maybe automate some grittier high end layers at some parts to move the energy around instead of keeping it at the same level for most of the time. I find that shifting the reverb settings and adding other weird effects like granular delay gives it a certain character beyond just cranking the wet knob. Also, running the pad through a convolver and trying different samples can give awesome results!

I liked the breaks, but I'm not a fan of the kick sample you chose. It sounds too weak to justify the heavy sidechaining coming off it. A heavier sample and some saturation would have done wonderfully!

The lead in the second section was nice, but again I wish there was more movement and variation to it. That stuttery ending though, n i c e <3

Beautiful track, very intense but could use a little variation! :)

Right off the bat, I would have cut the high frequencies out of that synth sequence. There's a high pitch that's making my teeth hurt like when old pencil sharpeners would screech. The rest of the instrumental was pretty tame, typical techno stuff.

The half life samples made me chuckle, although they don't have a catchy groove for the most part. I feel like if you took another hour to just play with chopping up the samples it'd be truly a banger xD The "A A A A A A AAAA" kinda sounds like a deer scare sound lol

Also, did he just say "I am looking forward to your nuts"???????

This is certainly the most "Newgrounds" song I've heard in a while, so kudos for that haha

I really wish you had submitted one of your metal songs for the NGUAC, you have a ton of great tunes but you chose to showcase a shitpost ;-;

RichardCynic responds:

How often does the NGUAC happen? I can only use songs that I exclusively worked on by myself, which I have a lot of for ATP, but that is going to be changing as ATP is going to become more of a collaborative effort between me and the guitarist.

Definitely does a good job of creating a dark, sinister atmosphere! The subtle dissonances, the melodic elements like the distorted guitar, the high pitched whine that faded in and out, it all works together really well! The drum patterns, while somewhat stale, definitely fit this kind of track.

I do wish it had more going on, it kinda just drones on and on the whole time. I wish there was something in the middle there to break up the flow a bit. Also the ending is kinda abrupt and lame :/

Spooky lil track! Would definitely shoot friends in Perfect Dark to this song! :)

Anonymous-Frog responds:

This song was made for the JollyWorld level "KARLSON: Milk Quest" (linked in the author comments. It's meant to sound like I took 4 doses of LSD while making it.

As for the abrupt ending, that was an attempt to make it loop more seamlessly, while at the same time not cutting out the intro.

I'll probably update this real quick.
